Scooter’s Coffee Enters Third Year of Partnership with Sporting KC’s The Victory Project
Season-Long Collaboration Kicks Off with #CoffeeKicksCancer Donation Day on May 17
May 10, 2019 – Kansas City, KS – Kansas City residents can feel even better about their morning coffee run next Friday. For the third straight year, Scooter’s Coffee has teamed up with The Victory Project, an initiative that unites Sporting Kansas City players, staff and fans to help children battling cancer. The partnership kicks off with a #CoffeeKicksCancer Donation Day on Friday, May 17, in which 20 percent of proceeds at participating locations will be donated to the foundation to help further its mission.
This Donation Day is the first of many at Scooter’s Coffee throughout the season. In addition to these Donation Days, select locations will host a Day of Giving by donating 100 percent of proceeds to The Victory Project. Since 2017, Scooter’s Coffee has raised over $78,000 for The Victory Project. One of The Victory Project’s special programs is Sporting Wishes, which identifies children who receive a secondary cancer diagnosis or relapse and then grants them a wish.
“We feel very much a part of the Kansas City community, and it was important for us to find a meaningful way to give back to our customers,” stated Tracy Bouwens, one of the owners of Freedom Enterprises, which owns many Kansas City locations. “The Victory Project makes life easier for families who are suffering the unimaginable circumstance of having a child with cancer. We are honored to contribute to this very important cause, one that unfortunately affects so many people, including our loyal customers.”
Throughout the month of September, in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, customers can make a donation to The Victory Project at participating locations.
“Scooter’s Coffee’s has been a great partner and we’re excited to continue the partnership this season,” said Rob Thomson, Chief Communications Officer at Sporting KC. “Together, with the support of Scooter’s Coffee, The Victory Project is able to positively impact the lives of so many families and children across the region.”
Customers can also expect a few fun surprises at some of the events throughout the season, including appearances by Blue, the Sporting KC mascot, and a special Victory Project drink.
“We love involving our customers in this initiative,” said Bouwens. “It’s amazing to see the power of our brand in action!”

About The Victory Project
Sporting Club, the parent organization of Sporting Kansas City, launched The Victory Project in 2013 to tangibly impact the lives of children battling cancer. Since then, the foundation has raised over $1.5 million and supported families by covering basic household expenses, car payments and more when the financial strain of a cancer diagnosis sets in. The foundation’s newest and most impactful program, Sporting Wishes, was launched in 2017 in response to the reality that over 20 children annually are diagnosed with a secondary cancer or relapse in our community. Sporting Wishes gives these children an opportunity to take control of their happiness and make their dreams come true — whether it is swimming with dolphins, visiting a volcano or meeting their favorite Disney princess.
